Economic Development and Jobs Plan Summary
Summit University is currently updating its comprehensive plan as required by the City of Saint Paul; this represents the economic development and jobs component of the plan. This plan is extremely important to service delivery to the Summit/University area for at least the next decade.
The plan recommendations propose a conscientious vision for economic revitalization of District 8, the area bordered by University to the North, Summit to the South, Rice/John Ireland to the east and Lexington to the west and is inclusive of the historic boundaries of the Rondo community. The concept seeks to heavily incorporate community concerns and aspirations while focusing on the economically sound, potential product of this community, as a strategy. We need more input on these recommendations.
The community within the prescribed borders contains a wealth and concentration (good and bad) of the City of St. Paul’s History, cultural diversity in general and African American history specifically. This history and contribution is a product that the community itself should nurture for its own benefit, but also is a potential benefit for the City as a whole. The economic driver is Cultural Centered Revitalization that would include necessary goods and services for the community and destinations attractive to tourism.
With this as a concept we would like to get your feed back on the types of businesses you believe are needed have the best potential for your support, success and have the best potential to employ within the community. Please rate businesses 5 being high potential and supportable and 1 being low potential and unsupportable. Please understand support means patronize, recommend, re-cycle $$.
The businesses identified have come from community peoples opinions, prior experience nationally, prior studies and space and size considerations. The businesses development and jobs will be focused in the primary Corridors: Selby, University, and Western. The business types to be targeted include tourism/hospitality, service oriented, retail, cultural related retail, food/beverage, and light, clean, manufacturing.
