We've Moved!
The Selby Area CDC has moved to 917 Selby Ave. The expanded space will have room for businesses to come in and work with specialists in managment, contracting, estimating, computers, marketing and other areas.
We will also be holding office hours for Small Businesses who have gone through the ProBid Training Program and the Small Business Training Class. Business owners are welcome to stop into the office on Mondays from 10 am until 2 pm and Thursdays from 1 pm until 6 pm. We can work with the businesses on navigating finding online resources for growing a sucessful business.
The Selby Avenue JazzFest is a recepient of the 2008 General Mills Communities of Color Grant. We look forward to a wonderful event this year on September 12th, and hopefully beautiful weather!

ProBid Training Program®

Selby Area CDC is working with small construction, janitorial, and landscaping businesses to help them learn how to read an RFP and successfully bid on projects, the new ProBid Training Program does just that. After two workshops with local businesses, Selby Area CDC is working to fill the need with a class designed for business owners.

Business owners will…

--> Learn how to read an RFP.
--> Find out how to pinpoint only the relevant parts of a project for their business to save time and money.
--> Calculate their overhead.
--> Write a bid.
--> Learn how to compute markup.
--> Evaluate contracts.
--> Create a marketing plan for growing the business.

Visioning for the Quarter:
Continuing our efforts, we work on rebuilding the community while utilizing its assets. The Selby Area CDC,
Morning Star Baptist Church and land owners on Selby Avenue west of Dale have initiated the re-visioning
process to address development opportunities. The assets of this community- which includes Summit,
University and Rondo communities-are its rich African American heritage, the diversity, and the strength of
the neighbors.
Taking advantage of the variety of businesses, products and events the Selby Avenue Corridor has to offer will
attract tourism and bring revenue to the corridor. For this reason, the visioning looks to build a joint effort by
creating more cultural tourism on Selby that compliments St. Paul’s Restaurant Row east of Dale.
“We’ve enlisted the help of the Assembly of Architects to build a model of the envisioned corridor and to mix
and match potential development projects and business opportunities,” said Selby Area CDC Executive
Director Art Weddington. “By late summer we expect to have the model and the vision to present to the
community.”
In an effort to both celebrate the history and create destinations, area artists have been asked to recommend
public art projects that tell the story of African American contributions in the area. The art will be on display at
sites to be selected.
The efforts being worked on will finish in a vision of a place to visit with things to see and do that are
distinctly Rondo, Selby, and St. Paul, MN.
